With spring and the end of term just around the corner, we've curated a collection of uplifting feature films that you can enjoy with your learners in the classroom. Get in the mood for the longer, brighter evenings to come and begin to unwind towards the end of another busy term by treating your learners to a well-earned film!

Films in our curated collection can be streamed directly into the classroom on Into Film+ and feature titles suitable for both primary and secondary audiences. The list includes animated musicals Hercules and Trolls Band Together, colourful blockbuster Barbie, and the dazzling J.J. Abrams sci-fi feature about filmmaking, Super 8.

Each of the films included in our list has an accompanying film guide to help teachers highlight the key topics, lead assemblies and start conversations with your learners. Full of delightful characters, ‘IF' is a heartfelt story about family, friendship, and growing up.

Migration (U)

A family of ducks get derailed on their migration journey and go on an unexpected whirlwind adventure in a big city.

Two by Two (Ooops! Noah is Gone...) (U)

A fresh and funny take on a well-known tale, this European animation celebrates uniqueness and the importance of friendship.

This film is accompanied by a film guide.

The Truman Show (PG)

Jim Carrey stars in this fascinating, existential satire about a man who discovers his whole life is a reality TV show.

This film is accompanied by a film guide that explores topics including Psychology, Citizenship and Media Studies in addition to highlighting themes surrounding family, life and death, mental health, fame and consumerism, and ethics.

Secondary

Barbie (12)

When Barbie suffers an existential crisis she must travel into the real world to discover who she really is.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (12)

Sequel to the superhero epic sees the nation of Wakanda face invading forces in the wake of King T'Challa's Death. Introducing new characters and worlds, this is another exciting addition to the Marvel universe and a visual feast of Afro-futurism.

Super 8 (12)

Strongly reminiscent of 80s classics like The Goonies and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, this entertaining sci-fi adventure is a sweet and spectacular tribute to the daring spirit of young storytellers and the art of filmmaking.

The Edge of Seventeen is an honest depiction of adolescence, often fun and full of dark humour, but also sensitively explores issues around mental health, including the isolation felt by its protagonist.

Premium (England only)

Bambi (U)

One of the greatest Disney animations, Bambi is a young deer learning love, friendship and tragedy. A timeless classic for all ages.

Accompanied by a film guide so that you can explore Bambi in the classroom.

Over the Hedge (U)

On the first day of spring a group of woodland animals are shocked to discover that their forest home has been destroyed by a new housing development.

The film guide explores topics including Geography and Science in addition to highlighting themes surrounding the environment, animals and family.

Peter Rabbit (PG)

Adapted from the beloved children's books by author Beatrix Potter in which a plucky rabbit tries to sneak into a farmer's vegetable garden.

The film guide explores its key topics and themes through informal discussion in the classroom.

Tangled (PG)

Sassy and fun CGI animated re-working of a classic fairytale - a princess who's been locked in an evil witch's tower.

Kung Fu Panda (PG)

Hugely likeable animation about a tubby giant panda with dreams of kung fu glory, who is chosen to defend a valley from an evil snow leopard.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (15)

Comic caper set in a luxurious European hotel in the '20s, where a famed concierge and a bellboy embark on a quest to safeguard a priceless painting.

The film guide is useful for exploring topics including Art and Design and Film Studies in addition to highlighting themes such as love and relationships, refugees and storytelling.

Please note: Film is a powerful tool for learning, helping to develop critical thinking, empathy, and an understanding of different perspectives. Our films have been selected with consideration to safeguarding, educational policy and statutory and non-statutory guidance. Some of our films and resources include sensitive content which is highlighted in the guidance that Into Film provides for each film. Educators should carefully watch or read all elements of any content and must ensure they are following their own school's policies and guidelines prior to using films and resources in the classroom or in after-school clubs. The final decision to use any film or resource sits with teachers, who decide what is appropriate for students, using their professional judgement and knowledge of their students and school context. Teachers must follow their school's safeguarding protocol if a student is triggered or makes a disclosure as a result.

How Do I Get Started on Into Film+?

To access Into Film+, all you'll need is an Into Film Account - it's completely free, and only takes a moment to set up. Into Film+ is free to use for all UK state schools that hold a valid Public Video Screening (PVS) Licence from Filmbankmedia.

Filmbankmedia PVS Licences are paid for on behalf of schools by all local authorities in England and by some local authorities in both Wales and Scotland.
