12-year-old Bea moves into her grandmother’s apartment in New York while her father awaits heart surgery in the same hospital that her mother died in from cancer years earlier. Her father insists that everything will be fine and is not just upbeat but insists upon being playful and silly. While Bea enjoys his antics, she’s on the cusp of adolescence and feels that she needs to leave her childhood memories behind. One night, however, she stumbles upon an odd-looking creature named Blossom and follows her home. Bea discovers that a mysterious man named Cal is working with Blossom and other creatures of all shapes and sizes which are each imaginary friends (IFs) of children – or at least they used to be. After learning about their stories, she sets out to help Cal in reuniting the IFs with the children who have since forgotten them and discovers something about her own childhood along the way. Full of delightful characters, ‘IF’ is a heartfelt story about family, friendship, and growing up.
very mild bad language, scary scenes, bereavement theme, rude humour
