Horror is one of the most enduring and iconic genres in all of fiction, and comes in many varieties, with countless celluloid nightmares from across the globe providing a dark mirror with which to look back at ourselves and our world. And of course, horror isn't just for grown-ups - it's also a captivating genre for children and young people, with horror-themed titles like Goosebumps and Hotel Transylvania taking a gentler, more child-friendly approach to the conventions and iconography of the genre.

Whatever kind of horror you're looking for, we have a whole host of films available to stream with Into Film+, as well as many film guides that will help you raise discussion points around some of the most interesting horror films out there. The 2022 Into Film Awards received scores of horror films, suggesting that the genre's popularity among young people is as strong as ever. Similarly, our Film of the Month competition regularly receives numerous horror films, and you can enjoy some of the fantastic youth-made horror shorts that went on to win below, along with other news articles exploring selected horror titles that have hit cinemas in recent years, and a horror-themed film list to help you pick the perfect film to enjoy in your Into Film Club or classroom this Halloween season.

Meanwhile, the BFI's latest blockbuster season, 'In Dreams Are Monsters', is a major UK-wide film and events season celebrating the horror genre on scene, taking place from 17 October to 31 December. 'In Dreams Are Monsters' is a fresh, inventive and inclusive take on the horror genre tracing how the imagery of nightmare has been created through film, and how stories of monsters have always been political. Find out more about 'In Dreams are Monsters' on the BFI website.
