'Incursion' is our latest of Film of the Month

We are delighted to reveal our latest Film of the Month winner Incursion. A chilling entry to the home invasion horror sub-genre, a group of friends plan to watch scary movies together on Halloween before the night takes an unexpected turn. Made by talented filmmaker Seth, from Leicestershire. Plus a special mention to Runaway, from students at Jenny Hammond Primary School, London.

Incursion (engaging for 14+) is a creative horror short that builds tension through lighting, sound, and camera work.

We caught up with filmmaker Seth about his experience making Incursion.

How does it feel to win Film of the Month?

Winning Film of the Month feels great, it's amazing to get recognition for a film I've created which I'm so passionate about!

What drew you to creating a film in the horror genre?

I was drawn to the horror genre because it's one of my personal favourites, I find it interesting and fun to find and learn all these unique techniques used in this genre of film over the years.

What are your main filmmaking influences?

I'd say my main influences for this film would be early 2000's Wes Craven films such as The Last House on the Left and other home invasion films like The Strangers and You're Next.

What elements of filmmaking are most important when creating a sense of suspense?

I'd have to say the most important aspects of creating suspense have to be the sound design and the cinematography. No scares will work if you don't use the right stings and sounds at the perfect time.

For cinematography, it's the timings of movement, where the camera pans and how long it lingers, it's incredibly important to get all these on point if you want an effect to work.

What did you enjoy most about making Incursion?

My favourite aspect of creating this film would getting to work with my siblings during the shoot, it made for a fun and collaborative set. Also I really enjoyed the ideas creation, getting to think of all these scenes and shots I could create and how I could accomplish them.

Do you have any advise to share with aspiring young filmmakers?

My advice to young people thinking about creating their first film would be to just do it. Create whatever you want, just have fun with it. Who cares if it isn't any good if you've had fun making it, it's your film.

Every single idea you have, the shots you capture and editing choice you make all go towards you getting better as a filmmaker, and it'll be evident with your following films, so just make that first film!

Seth's film will now be showcased to over 300,000 film club members online, and get featured on the Into Film YouTube channel in a playlist along with all the other shortlisted films for this month. They have secured a £100 voucher to help further develop their filmmaking.
