Do I need a licence to screen films?
Streaming Into Film+ in a classroom to assist with teaching does not require a licence, however, any other screenings of Filmbankmedia films require a Public Video Screening (PVS) Licence.
This means you will need a PVS Licence to stream films in:
- Into Film Clubs
- After school clubs
- Wet weather play
- End of term screenings
- Or in any non-curriculum settings.

Please be aware that while a PVS Licence covers you to stream all films available on Into Film+, it doesn't cover all films outside of our streaming platform. If showing films separate from Into Film+, you may also require an MPLC Licence.
Do I need a licence to use Into Film+?
Yes. To stream films on Into Film+, a PVS Licence is required.
How do I get a PVS Licence?
You can purchase a PVS Licence for your organisation by contacting Filmbankmedia.
Please note that once you purchase a PVS Licence, you may have to wait up to 4 business days before you will be able to access Into Film+ while your new licence is processed by Filmbankmedia.
All state schools in England are already covered by a PVS Licence, which is provided by the Department for Education.
How much does a PVS Licence cost?
The PVS Licence is available to buy from Filmbankmedia for £112.50+VAT. Further information on licence purchasing and pricing can be found on the Filmbankmedia website.
The PVS Licence is an annual licence and will need to be renewed every 12 months in order to access Into Film+.
Please note: State schools in England are already covered by a PVS Licence, which is provided by the Department for Education. Schools in certain other locations around the UK may also have PVS Licences provided for them at no cost. Please read the section below to find out if your school is likely to be covered.
Licencing Across the UK
England
All state schools in England are automatically covered by a PVS Licence, which is provided by the Department for Education. This also grants state schools in England access to Into Film+ Premium.

Scotland
For state schools in Scotland, a PVS Licence is paid-for and provided in the following local authorities:
- Dumfries and Galloway
- East Ayrshire
- Inverclyde
- Orkney
- South Ayrshire
- West Dunbartonshire.
Schools in all other local authorities in Scotland are responsible for purchasing their own PVS Licence from Filmbankmedia.
If Filmbankmedia have confirmed that your school is not covered, please contact edinburgh@intofilm.org to see if you are eligible for bursary support to acquire a Licence.

Wales
A PVS Licence is paid-for and provided to state schools in the following local authorities:
- Cardiff
- Conwy
- Vale of Glamorgan.
Schools in all other local authorities in Wales are responsible for purchasing their own PVS Licence from Filmbankmedia.

Northern Ireland (NI)
With the support of Northern Ireland Screen, Into Film NI provides a PVS Licence for a fixed number of schools within the ‘Extended Schools' programme. All other schools are responsible for purchasing their own PVS Licence from Filmbankmedia.

Is Into Film+ free?
Yes, Into Film+ is free-to-use for all UK state schools that hold a valid PVS Licence.
I am an independent school. Can I use Into Film+?
Yes, independent, fee-paying schools can currently access Into Film+ as long as they hold a valid PVS Licence.
Please note: At some point in the future, Into Film+ may transition to a paid-for service for independent schools. We will update you should this be the case.
Do I need any other licences to use Into Film+
No, only a PVS Licence is required to stream Filmbankmedia films on Into Film+.
What is an ERA Licence?
Some titles on Into Film+ are provided via the Educational Recording Agency (ERA), and these titles require an ERA Licence to view. The vast majority of educational establishments in the UK are already covered by an ERA Licence. You can check the ERA Licence status of your organisation here.
ERA are an organisation that support the education sector by making it easy for schools, colleges and universities to harness the power of audio-visual broadcast materials for non-commercial, educational purposes.
Filmbankmedia is Into Film's principal content provider and its content is covered by the PVS Licence. Other copyright licences and permissions may be required for alternative screenings of content.
