Honestly it feels like Blue Sky Studios all for a sudden ran out of ideas and capitalize it a bit. Also I have never read the original Horton Hears a Who book so have no personal strong feelings with this product but I did read some of the Dr Seuss book as a kid particularly Green Eggs & Ham. The Dr Seuss films are just weird movies in general and it seems we got a lot of them in this century but even then why would watch this if the older adaption is the better product! And that came from the past century! But without a fear-a-who let's get over with this!:
Honestly the intro is the best part of the movie and the score hits hard.
The animation dose capture the energy and wackness of the books but it's lacking so many colours WHAT makes the books so entertaining in the first. Despite The Lorax being a worse film art least the animation looks very good.
The movie's plot is almost nothing but Horton talking to the spect for the most and it makes a boring watch in my opinion. Horton feels a bit off, I don't think Jim Carrey is a bad casting but it feels like Horton to be the Genie from Aladdin like is he a teacher who is a bit mature and not CRAZY, CRAZY all the time is that weird to you? I don't know. Also the scene where he struggles to get pass the bridge the movie is obviously ripping off Shrek with that bridge scene! Blue Sky you just love ripping off Shrek don't you! I may have a weak smile at times but it's just not funny as a comedy in my opinion. The comedy could work on paper but it's way too on the nose or lacks timing to the punchline what makes it work, it's because the movie has a lacklustre script in my opinion. Maybe the movie is trying to get kids in the story but even then it feels like a modern retelling of the story, that anime scene is just filler and it's so out of place for a Dr Seuss adaption! The side characters don't do anything! Just the remove them and nothing will change to the story!
Jeez BLUE SKY you like how to put out your running time in the most annoying way!
Steve Carell is in this film and dose an alright performance (even though I like his performance better in the Despicable Me films) and I guess the Mayor is the best character and the father and son is so underdeveloped and it makes it less impactful. In fact that's the other issue with the movie there no steaks in this film because who poorly pace it is and I just don't care for the characters at all!
I guess the main message of the film is that don't let people put down your believes and speak up to the world no matter if your crazy. Honestly it's a good message if only the is executed well because it's not, why? The tone is inconstant! That message is important and it's quite mature but then you got the goofy funny ha ha moments! Honestly now I'm running out of ideas to say about this film!
Final thoughts: So overall that was Horton Hears A Who!, it's a harmless movie at best but it's pointless at worst like why would you watch this if the original film is more faithful then this! It feels like the people behind this didn't even try!
Is it Cinematic Classic Junk? Well sort of, I said that because it's not a insulting adaption as the Illumination's The Lorax but it's a movie that I don't hate but I wouldn't re-watch it ever again. So that's everything I got to say!
