Attack the Block (2011)

Attack the Block is a 2011 comedy/science fiction movie and a donnie and his mates encountering an alien in their area and shows a response to an alien crisis that feels more like something you as the viewer would watch due to it’s down to earth and relatable nature.

The movie draws major similarities to that of Shaun of the Dead and The World’s End specifically due to the involvement of the producer Edgar Wright, who directed the ‘Cornetto’ trilogy and also Scott Pilgrim vs The World (im currently rewatching as im writing this) which are all amazing movies, that i love, in their own regard. Another cause for this similarity is due to Nick Frost appearing in the movie, who plays the deuteragonists to Simon Pegg’s Protagonists in all three cornetto movies, who steals the show in any scene he’s in.

Speaking of the cast and characters, the actors fit their roles perfectly and their roles (specifically the main friend group) really portray a genuine friend group who almost definitely got on in real life in addition to the whole cast. Most if not all characters in the movie have a character arc throughout the runtime, i’m not gonna ramble on about this bc i’ve pretty much wrote an essay so far and i don’t tend to be so technical and formal and just tend to ramble and info dump with stupid facts.

The movie’s action and cinematography is VERY similar to that of Edgar Wright’s movies, in the best possible way and without feeling like a ripoff regardless of Edgar’s involvement with the movie, as it has the fast shots/cuts and violent yet comedic action sequences like that of Shaun of the Dead.

In conclusion and as the movie comes to a close, it ends on an ambiguous yet optimistic note, similar to the ending of La Haine albeit different context-wise, which may seem like the movie cut short but due to the themes of the movie it feels right and ultimately works as it ends on a high note with a serious important message to the viewers packed into such a comedic and silly movie.
