The Danish Girl (2015)

The Danish girl is a biographical drama, telling the story of Einar and Girda*s relationship and how this develops over the course of Einar*s transition to become Lili. Whilst it has been criticized for dramatizing these events and adding extra details to add to the romanticism of the film, the film gives great insight into what it feels like to struggle with trans identity in a society that doesn*t understand and historically has demonized these issues. Eddie Redmayne is wonderful in the role of Einar and Lili, using gestures and facial expressions to really bring to life Lili*s emotions and themes of loneliness, strength and bravery are handled in a very believable way, leaving you moved and heartbroken by the ending. This is an inspirational film, with a very important message and issues that still affect many today. *It doesn’t matter what I wear, it’s what I dream* - Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne)
