Kidulthood (2006)

This is not usually my type of film and does in fact paint a pretty poor picture of inner-city London schools. It makes you come to the realisation that students and children nowadays are being subjected to types of violence and aspects of the world that shouldn't exist to begin with, let alone be anywhere in the vicinity of someone's childhood. The title becomes appropriate for this very reason as the film explores how 14year olds are required to step up to adult situations in order to fit in or not be trampled both in school and out. Those who fail to conform of course wind up abused, bullied and inevitably dead, either by their own hand or at the hands of their peers. This film has some beautiful cinematography and editing sequences which really investigate the characters' emotional turmoil and the soundtrack is excellent featuring The Streets, Roots Manuva, Dizzee Rascal, The Cinematic Orchestra and others of a similar caliber. Truly a must see and older kids really love it.
