Since it's nearing the middle of summer, it's the perfect time to review a Christmas film. Joyeux Noel is an English-French-German film set around that infamous day where the troops agree to a ceasefire for Christmas. The scene where the German singer goes out into no-man's-land with a Scot playing the bagpipes for him always makes me feel warm on a winter's night. It is easily one of the best Christmas films in recent years. You really connect with the characters, especially after the truce ends. These soldiers have made friends with their supposed enemies, and it's painful to see them fight and kill each other after, and you can see they don't wish to. This will always be the film I curl up to watch on Christmas.
