Synopsis

As a farmer in Kenya, Kisilu knows how to work with nature. But in recent years, nature has not worked with him, as severe droughts followed by disastrous flooding wipe out his crops. He meets a Norwegian filmmaker called Julia, who gives him a camera to document his day-to-day life and capture the impact of climate change on his land, his family and his community. By recording what’s going on around him, Kisilu learns more about the causes of global warming too and starts rallying his fellow farmers into taking action locally. But as the true scale of the climate emergency becomes clear, Kisilu decides to take to a global stage, attending COP21 talks in Paris in the hope that his story can sound the alarm for international decision makers. This collaborative documentary is a touching character study that addresses issues including climate justice, urbanisation, access to water and climate refugees.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
