This quietly humorous, understated drama examines the intersecting lives of four women living in small town Montana, in the Northwestern United States. They include a lawyer attempting to defuse a sensitive hostage situation, a wife and mother trying to break ground on building her dream family home, a native-American local horse rancher, and a recently graduated lawyer doing supply teaching on the side. Gradually we learn more about these women’s lives as their stories are subtly brought together, their everyday, relatable concerns taking place against a dramatic mountainous backdrop.
Ree is a rare character, something like a western hero with a quiet courage that enthralls in this compelling Oscar-nominated drama.
