Synopsis

Like the similarly themed Dead Poets Society and Mona Lisa Smile, this drama concerns a charismatic teacher who exerts a powerful influence over their students. Maggie Smith stars as the eccentric but inspirational Scots schoolmistress Jean Brodie, a woman who avoids any sort of curriculum in favour of what she feels her young female charges should know about life. Outside of class, a small group of girls compete for her favour, but their initial devotion eventually leads to jealousies, betrayal and tragedy.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
