This course is part of Teaching Literacy Through Film, a series of short learning experiences focusing on specific areas of literacy.

Harness the power of film to embed reading and writing skills in Exploring Poetry Through Film.

This short course introduces simple strategies to enrich poetry lessons – whether you’re aiming to unpick a poet’s style or inspire your pupil’s own creative poetry.

You’ll explore how camera shot types can support learners to visualise and understand existing poetry as well as scaffold their own writing. We’ll also introduce filmmaking as an exciting poetry challenge to extend your pupils’ learning.

There will be opportunities to try out the activities as you learn and you’ll get exclusive access to beautiful short films and full lesson resources so you can put your learning into practice straight away.

By the end of this course, you will be able to use film to:

  • Support poetry comprehension and writing with camera shot types
  • Develop learners’ confidence for visualising poetry
  • Build a new vocabulary for the analysis of poetry
  • Provide a flexible scaffold for poetry writing.
