We've partnered with Scouts to bring the magic of storytelling and filmmaking to Scout groups across the UK.

We've collated a selection of fun, bite-size activities to inspire young people to tell their own stories through film. Scout members will learn new skills, get creative, and even have the chance to earn a special Into Film blanket badge to add to their collection.

Storytelling through film is a great way for young people to express themselves, build confidence, and work as a team.

Learning how to write short stories, turn them into scripts, storyboard, and create short films helps young people to develop important skills for life, and perhaps their future career.

Start your filmmaking journey today with your Scout group - a chance to get creative and have fun.

This resource page houses the following activities, each of which can be completed in 15 minutes:

  • How to Create Foley Sound - Learn about Foley sound, and create your own sounds for a short clip
  • Adding Dialogue - Learn how verbal and non-verbal communication is used on screen, and create your own dialogue for a scene
  • Shifting Perspectives - Learn about panning and pulling out to shift perspectives, and put your knowledge to the test
  • Realism vs Expressionism - Learn about realism and expressionism in filmmaking.
  • Quick Change - Learn how to quickly transform characters on screen, and create your own 'quick change' character transformation.
  • Take Flight - Learn how flying sequences are created and plan your own flying scene.

And once you've finished exploring our collection of 15-minute filmmaking resources, you can put everything you've learned into practice with the final part of your journey, our longer Shoot and Screen activities. These will take 90-120mins to complete, and will see you plan and create your own short film.
