We've partnered with Scouts to bring the magic of storytelling and filmmaking to Scout groups across the UK.

We've collated a selection of fun, bite-size activities to inspire young people to tell their own stories through film. Scout members will learn new skills, get creative, and even have the chance to earn a special Into Film blanket badge to add to their collection.

Storytelling through film is a great way for young people to express themselves, build confidence, and work as a team.

Learning how to write short stories, turn them into scripts, storyboard, and create short films helps young people to develop important skills for life, and perhaps their future career.

Start your filmmaking journey today with your Scout group - a chance to get creative and have fun.

This resource page houses the following activities, each of which can be completed in 15 minutes:

  • How to do a Long Take - Learn the effect of a long camera take, and how to achieve one
  • Character and Camera Shots - Learn about the different types of camera shot and how to use them to introduce character
  • How to Determine Lighting - Learn about the effects of different lighting and create your own low-key lighting scene
  • The Right Angle - Learn the effect different camera angles can have and put your knowledge into practice.

You can find more 15-minute filmmaking resources for Scout groups to use here:

And once you've finished exploring our collection of 15-minute filmmaking resources, you can put everything you've learned into practice with the final part of your journey, our longer Shoot and Screen activities. These will take 90-120mins to complete, and will see you plan and create your own short film.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
