Film Buff Challenge: Archive is a curated list of films for curious minds to explore how the world changes around us. Through our carefully curated films, learners will see that, although a lot changes as time passes, the things that makes us human remain constant. Our need to work, explore, learn, play and seek out entertainment was as important in the past as it is today.
Based on our ever-popular Film Buff Challenge activities, which encourage critical thinking and review writing skills, this special edition was created in partnership with Northern Ireland Screen's Digital Film Archive.
"Northern Ireland Screen's Digital Film Archive are thrilled to have a dedicated Film Buff Challenge resource to inspire and surprise young people with the moving image treasures of the past."
Lisa Duggan, Archive Education Officer, Northern Ireland Screen
Whether you teach primary or secondary learners, you'll find a dedicated menu including five short films to screen that are suitable for your audience. Each collection of short films takes approximately 30 mins to watch in total, and come with synopses, noted themes to discuss, and a supported film review activity.
After watching all five films and completing the review writing activity, learners can be awarded their Film Buff Challenge: Archive certificates, included in the Teachers' Notes. These notes also contain links to the films and step-by-step guidance for engaging your learners with Film Buff Challenge.
We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
