Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015)

Hotel Transylvania 2.

It's a movie that I weridly remembered amd watched it a few times.

But at first thoughts, I thought it was alright I guess but I used to think the film series is all downhill from there however after re-watching it, i didn't realised that. This movie actually holds up pretty well for an 2015 animated movie.

But before I go, apparently Big Jim is still in the think of it mode and in his (2018) The Grinch review. He is trying to Exposed me because I give that movie a 2 stars and the Minions.

To be honest my Minions review is quite old and some of my thoughts have been changed over the year.

So Big Jim, if your reading this. GET OUT!!!!!!!!

So without a further-a-do lets get into it:

Animation: It shockingly is pretty good, it has a lot of energy and I can tell that the animators are just having fun with this. It reminds me a lot of the early cartoons and the characters are incrediblely expressive and have a lot dynamic shots.

But what I do think is a down grade is the comedy for me. Its not bad, most of the jokes are okay if not funny at points but I think its less funnier then the first really because of that social media where Mavis shows the video to Drac is pretty cringe and dose give less points to the movie.

But for the other mentions of social media, I didn't really find it funny but I do admire that this movie is taking place in a modern time as monsters and humans can co-exist with each other rather then clashing is a pretty detail and it shows humans likes monsters from the first movie because they have move on.

The characters are surprisingly written well enough, Drac now being an Uncle wants to make he's grand son a vampire but to avoid conflict he asks Johnny to go out with Mavis to California to see if this is suitable for him.

It's actually a good concept idea and its done well enough.

Though, the side characters don't offer a lot but I don't mind them here.

I do have a few issues with the film, I do think the third act pacing could have done better but its also funny the fight scene is done way before Endgame. I don't know I think its funny.

Again the social media jokes didn't landed for me much but it dose have a few humourous things to offer, like when Johnny's dad is usually unenthusiastic with his wife and by the end (when Dennis freezed Johnny's mom) he is finally dancing enthusiastically.

I really like thr characters reactions and all bounce off each other very well.

I also notice humour is a lot more playful then the first one but it also dose have its drama moments as well, okay its not really anything "emtional damage" but it dose try to stand on its own.

Like when Grandpa calls his own son a fool but at this point Drac learns to accept Dennis if he's a monster or not. After the Epic battle Grandpa (in a short character arc) stops his own henchman from killing Johnny that he would never hurt a human again, its kind cute and a little bitter sweet in some way.

Closing Thoughts:

So overall Hotel Transylvania 2 is a surprisingly fun time and it's sub-power to the first.

It's a movie that you can really vibe with, particularly if it's Halloween.
