Introduction:
So if you didn't know as a kid I used to read a lot of Captain Underpants books (still today) and the Netflix Tv show. These books holds a special place in my heart because these books get me into the world of comic books. I read these a lot in fact and my brother almost got the entire collection. I know any kid would be bored to death to read if they read, I don't know Three Little Pigs. So I got to say, I finally watched this movie, its a movie that I want to talk about for a long time now! You might assume me that a movie with baby humour is a bad movie, right? Well, I'm actually mad that this movie is NOT well critically acclaimed as Boss Baby and a sequel (the longest DreamWorks movie) , are you telling me an :Baby that can talk is better then this?! To at insult to injury they nominated to the best animation nominees in 2017 but Coco ended up winning anyways!
But even then the Tomato Critics are one of the most disillusion people in the world.
" WHY DO MARIO TURN INTO A FURRY?!?!??!!?? THE MARIO MOVIE IS WOKE!!!! LUIGI AND BOWSER ARE UNCONDITIONAL IN LOVE!! THE WORST MOVIE EVER!!"
Yeah, your going to have a hard time to convincing people.
So without a Tra-la-laaaaaaaa let's eat the egg salad-sandwich!:
So plot: This is the part where I basically summarised the plot; it's about George and Harold (George is the left with the short cut and tie and Harold is the right with the bad hair cut) two wacky, silly comic book kids who likes pranks but the Principle name Mr Krupp (Peter Griffin) hates children so one day during Melvin's Invention Convention the two was caught on camera so Krupp wants them to be sperate classes.
The two decided to take the turtle but instead George used the Hypo-Ring to Krupp and change him into their fantasy into real life Captain Underpants, after George and Harold gets Captain Underpants they realised putting water on him turns him back to mean-old-Krupp. When they reach he's house they realised that Krupp is a lonely person.
The science teacher Professor "P" which George and Harold discovered that he's name is called "Poopy Pants" they made a comic about it but made Poopy Pants mad because it reminds of he's past that he hates laughter. When Gorge and Harold tries to keep Captain Underpants under control he turns but Krupp puts an end to their friendship to split classes. OH NO! Professor Poopy Pants has a big toilet robot! So to make a long story short they defeat Professor Poopy Pants they decided to turn Captain Underpants back to Krupp because they will still be friends even if they are sperate classes but set Krupp a date! What?! The Taking Toilets?! Captain Underpants take the sky again!
The funny is actually funny: To start off with the basics, I want start with the comedy. It's actually really funny. Like I said if you know me I hate fart jokes and I considered that "baby humour" however I would argue that the Shrek movies (except the third) and Captain Underpants are the only exceptions because the humour HAS a purpose (which I would get to later) unlike the rest which make the joke for the sake of it. The other I like is that the movie got to do less of the jokes and more of the absurdity, like when Captain Underpants tries to be mean by scaring everyone.
I also think that the humour both doesn't over-play it then it become on the nose and not too much with pop culture references then it become cringe or if you don't get the humour audiences wouldn't find it funny. I think it has a nice balance of that and the absurdity got to do with the plot like the imagine scene or the fun fair and none of it feels forced and feels natural to the story because it has a sense of purpose. Here's another thing it's just unpredictable and I think it's well thought out by the people who are making these.
Also, it's iconic " Can either explain why it now reads: Come see my hairy arm pits!", "In my Office, NOW!", "Not so Cherry'os.", "In the cage, now!" , "I carry it whatever I go, including the showers!" , "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday!"
(Captain Underpants screaming at George and Harold)
(Krupp get destroyed by water)
(unrelated to movie)
Krupp : "When you clean up this mess your going mown the entire football field!"
George: " That doesn't sounds so bad."
Krupp: "With your teeth!"
Harold: "What?! How do we do that?"
Krupp: "With your TEETH!"
George: " But, how do we do that?!"
Krupp: "With- WITH YOUR TEETH!"
Okay moving on, I'm just naming memes.
Captain Underpants: I also want to throw him the man himself Captain Underpants, the reason why he work is because he's supposed to be an idiot and he thinks that villains exists and the movie knows it but never tells you it. It's one of those miracle movies where it's not like "oh we know this is stupid" or "oh, that went well" you know those annoying self-aware that is on nose and so obviously. You know those annoying Marvel humour makes it unnecessary and random
The animation is fantastic: If I had one issue with (most) of the early DreamWorks 2000's movies, it would that the colour is washed out particularly Shark Tale but I'll give a pass on the Shrek movies because it's supposed to be disgusting. Even the early movies from the 2010's like The Croods or Turbo look very boring and dull! I love the stylised animation here, it perfectly captures the books and I appreciate the attention to detail that you'll most likely to miss in first watch like the comics drawings that are a call back to the books if you looked closely.
I also I adore the vibe each location they are going like the school reflective how sad and unhappy it looks but the shades of blue and the shades of blue reflects on Krupp's house being mostly blue. The treehouse is full of life reflects on the joyful on George and Harold's friendship and lot's of lights and bright colours. Or even the toilet fight scene inside is full of purples, pinks and light blue that reflects on Professor Poopy Pant's clothes.
George and Harold analysis: My only critique with this film is George and Harold voiced by an adult despite being kids is very weird to think about but it grew on me and that's really just an minor thing. The one I love about these two a lot is their healthy friendship, I love that not only one have a skill which George loves writing stories and Harold loves drawing but I love that even the worst situations they don't want to bring the vibe down and have a beam of heart if not laughter.
To I used to watch and like Dennis the Menace and Horrid Henry two bad behave children but over time it starts to sour me because I find them a bit one-note and that's because they have no motivations. George and Harold in the other hand are pranksters but they aren't mean because they aren't bad they just want to have fun and bring joy to kids like them to this soulless school with teachers how hates laughter.
I also love that their character arc is learning that they still can be friends even in sperate classes, it sounds very basic but it's the thing to most kids that have best friends and learning to split classes and learning that you pick your best one all the time you still to deal with out students.
Mr Krupp analysis: So mean old Peter Griffin. The thing I love he's characterisation in this movie that we get to see a lonely side to him that the books never have and after all it's a movie and it's supposed to be relate to the audiences and make them care about. I also love that how he reflects how adults view kids, loud, annoying, stupid brats. It's honestly so easy these days that adults thinks kids are lazy boozos that don't understand the eco system of our world. Krupp just want them to be slight and shut up for once. But however he's not all that smart like he fall asleep and a one trick at points (sounds familiar?) which he's comparable to a bully then a actual Principle. I love he's insecurity side to him to because he's secretly in with love Edith (the cafeteria lunch lady) and Edith too.
I love that the ending of the movie is George and Harold remembered how lonely Krupp is and giving him a gift by setting him up with a date with Edith. This shows the two more forgiving side and Krupp giving their comics back which is wholesome and warms my heart.
Professor Poopy Pants analysis: Professor Poopy Pants other then the voice actor Nick Kroll in fact all of the casting is great and he's performance really sound like Professor Poopy Pants. I like that he's name completely doom him from the start the point where he want to get rid of laughter and thanks to nerd Emoji Melvin Sneedly. He's not a compelling or threatening villain compare to Fairy Godmother
or Lord Shen he's more goofy and that's the other key factor to this movie is a homage to superhero movies Adam West Batman in particular what Captain Underpants and Professor Poopy Pants.
Final thoughts: So overall The Captain Underpants movie may have a simple plot but it's a re-freshing watch with so much love an care put into this movie and I'm going to repeat myself but needs to said when movies are put into effort they can stand the test of time and THAT what makes a good with heart and soul bit by bit, Adam by Adam. It has an unique animation style that stands out and we need more movies like this, likable characters, funny humour, a plot that feels like a Captain Underpants movie made it even though it wasn't Dav Pilkey it was by David Soren which surprisingly done an amazing job. Also I'm so glad we didn't get an live-action one because that would be terrible.
Also in my opinion it's BETTER then Shrek 2, I'm not joking In fact I'll dare to call it an masterpiece because the critique is not rally important Kevin Heart and Thomas Middleditch done a fine job it's not bad any means. So yeah I rally enjoyed this movie and I can recommend it, in fact it's a must must watch DreamWorks movie!
Conclusion/The beauty of Captain Underpants: The thing is that, what many people don't realised about the Captain Underpants franchise is that it's all about the child like innocents, as kids we feel like we have our world in our hands, there isn't any complex story it's the child like wonder and other thing is the creation, you can do what ever you want with the comic book world and I think not many people realised the beauty of comic books. It's using your imagination and creating whatever you want if it's cartoony, superheroes or out of space. George and Harold will make any Captain Underpants stories they want, not because to do it for obligation for one the other because they do it because they care about their creation. Even if you lost all hope, even if someone consider what is too childish, you cared about your fantasy's, caring and loving the things that made you happy in life.

"When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he suffered from ADHD, dyslexia, and behavioural problems. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hall every day. Fortunately, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway crating his own original comic books. In second grade, Dav Pilkey created a comic book about a superhero name Captain Underpants. His teacher ripped it up and told him he couldn't spend the rest of his life making silly books. Fortunately, Dav was not a very good listener."
