So 80+ years later I barely hear people talking about it because of all of the modern Disney movies, oh right. But people are forgetting the fact that Snow White is the first ever animated movie like if Walt Disney wasn't there need we don't get animated any movies now and upon re-watching it I honestly think it deserves more credit then it gets! Without a further-a-do lets get into it:
Fun fact: So during the production its supposed to be release in 1934 but got pushed until 1937 and this movie brings the first costume of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse , Donald Duck and the Seven Dwarfs (this costumes looks like they came from the basement).
Animation: The animation looks good , its like a moving painting and I think to me this is the biggest positive of the movie. If you didn't know the animation was rotoscoping which was draw each frames by an actor for reference. In total there are 120,000 frames of animation!
Plot: The plot is very simple and easy to understand. I don't think it's a boring plot but I think maybe its the weakest written movie. But even then it was time where critics except whatever cartoons offer and mainly just for laughs and for children. This movie completely change it and it gives different tones like action, comedy, romance and most importantly horror. Horror defines the animation genre and the way the movie used it is amazing like just imaging you seen this as a kid, a kid who never saw the concept of horror and this lead today with many horror animation.
This is hidden style because name one Disney film from today that has a horror tone to it? Sure kids will be scared of it but that's a good thing because it creates a genre and a genre has appeal. What if a kid likes edgy Halloween more then bland nice Christmas, let that sink into your head! It doesn't harm the kid, it's a style and horror has more work and effort then the cutie side. Its like eating McDonalds where its cute and taste good but you get tiered with it by playing safe like that one scene in SpongeBob where he made one Krabby Patty and that one is unique and special compare to the bland quantity what King Neptune is making (to better picture my point).
Snow White: Snow White is the same character through out of the entire movie. She's nice, hard working and gullible and at the end she's nice hard working and gullible. People would preferred characters with depth (I would be on their side) but the point is that well bare with me with a moment, in the 1930s this is the decade when the great depression became to be and makes the people lives who work in America even harder by lacking jobs , nations farms are devastated and war. Yeah not good. If Disney is trying to lift America's spirit lets say they created a story about a lonely person who thinks that being responsible to her friends, like a mother figure or role model, in fact I think she is a good role model to young girls in my opinion.
The prince is NOT a character: The prince is NOT a character like he has no personality or character. Its pretty boring as a character in modern perspective and ironically this is all I had to say about him.
The seven Dwarfs: I like that each character has different designs and personalities compare to Minions where all of them has the same model and look the same and my favourite is Grumpy, in fact Grumpy is the most interesting character because he's the only character to have an arc to well not be grumpy and he is the first one to put flowers on Snow White.
Its NOT perfect however: I had some problems with it, like the text appear out of nowhere and it kind of do this tell not show like way, my other problem is that this movie is made WAAAAAAYYYY before my time and I can't relate to it, as much as I appreciate it but there isn't a lot to say other then this is time something like this.
Final thoughts: So that was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it was very ground-breaking of a movie and very revolutionary! Its a film is not going to be my top ten Disney films but even then this film doesn't do much wrong (ironically lacks flaws but not much depth) and if your curious about this, might give it a watch. Its not a bad movie at all but like most of the other Disney classics (except any of the 80s or 90s) I would not watch it again ,sadly.
That's all I got to say about this!
