This movie is not only the worst rated DreamWorks movie by Critics with 35% , that's even lower then Shrek the Third and Boss Baby! This movie got an Oscar Nomination for best Animated feature which is absurd because two other movies is Shrek 2 and The Incredibles are also Nominated and you are telling me that Shark Tale is on power with Shrek 2 and The Incredibles and this is the exact year when The Polar Express and The SpongeBob SquarePants movie , no where near as insulting when Boss Baby got Nominated instead of The Captain Underpants Movie but why Oscars?! Maybe because Martin Scorsese is in this movie. Its weird how people regardless called this the worst DreamWorks movie in their library but no one explain why but that's what I'm going to talk about , without a further-a-do let's get into it!: How to NOT world build: This is one of the DreamWorks movies that has a world building ,I'll give this movie this since it has some world building but it's not define properly because a lot of it doesn't work and its just confusing (In a funny way). In the opening Lenny tell of Frankie to stopping sing the Jaws theme and Frankie said its our like what?! How do they know its their theme and how cinemas work if there is no electricity oh wait there is electric in the Ocean! There are lobsters on railways, what's the point if they are not doing anything but passengers in fact do the fishes come out of the taxi's and are some fishes only design for a job? Some bill boards say Coral Cola , Gup and the best one Burger fish. Are you saying that fishes eat fishes. Is cannibalism a thing? Yes because the sushi existed and this monster is sealing slushies' for 4 pounds. I didn't know this is a cannibalistic society. Oscar The Villain: Oscar might be the worst written DreamWorks Protagonist I had seen. At the start he is okay at first being the quirky likeable Will Smith we know but when he needs to repay Mr Sykes and beaten up by his jellyfish henchmen he say to Angie that "Nobody likes a nobody" but he did had friends with the background characters and Angie is the only one who support him so what. The part when Frankie dies for some reason Oscar starts to Karate to the shark instead you know RUNS AWAY LIKE AN NATURAL FISH and the two jellyfish thinks he killed the shark , Oscar lied and say I killed this shark and everyone believes him? What! How? Actually think about it. Like do any of these fishes believe that Oscar killed a shark and the two jellyfishes are the only ones saw him, like if Oscar said hey I killed this shark and one would said yeah sure you killed the shark then the movie will be over! Mr Sykes get angry again , Angie is fill of shint he lies and gets fired! I mean Oscar is very fishy..... !!!LAUGH!!! In the montage he gets the reward ,liked and gets brand deals but he lied so what this makes me feel? Happy? Routing for Oscar? NO I feel manipulated he is a liar and doesn't feels like he earned either because he didn't do anything! He still acts like an egotistical jerk for out the entire movie and he is an annoying idiot like he doesn't know what is Angie is feeling upset. Other characters: Lenny is fine .Lenny is different from the others cause he is vegetarian and making him an out cast from his Mafia gang but for some reason Lenny became best friends with Oscar just like Shrek did. Its very noticeable how Jack Black is putting a feminine voice like what are they going for with Lenny. We need our two mark-able duo so dumb kids buy toys of them. Angie is a fine character because she is the voice of reasons at times. Lola existed and only existed to make a plot twisted that she is working with Mafia Boss like you just removed her and nothing happens. I like Mr Sykes because he is the only likeable character he is trying to run a business and Oscar is messing things up! But his dialogue is on point and he is funny. Okay I lied I like the Octopus henchmen and the pizza phone calls is very funny. Plot: The story is about Oscar being A LIAR! (Okay enough about Oscar) I don't like how Frankie died like he was killed by an anchor it just comes out of know where and feel forced so Oscar can Lied. I don't like how the story has the liar revealed trope which DreamWorks uses way too often. The scene where Lino find his son but how can I feel bad for you since you treat him different then Frankie and I can not see one moment you cared for Lenny. You are a Mafia Boss. Oscar: "Listen its not his fault its between you and me", Lino: "What did I ever do to you?" YOU ATE PEOPLE! Then they do the liar revealed thing and an emotional climax but when the Lino said they are cool so the Mafia Gang is shut down and Oscar should be under arrest for being a fraud to everyone but the ending is the worst scene in the entire movie because it killed off the dance ending which a lot of animated movies do and just copy Shrek 2's ending is just lazy! I can't it any mo- Oh the movie is over. But not the review! Some of the comedy is funny , some are pretty bad: This is a hot take but some of the comedy is funny because that is dude to the voice actors reactions and makes iconic quotes like "Are you kidding me, Are you kidding me are you out of your mind" (Hot take I like the jellyfish and they are funny) but this movie sure likes pop culture humour and a lot of it is very on the nose and the reason why this movie is using so much pop culture is because this movie try's to be like Shrek (Had you not seen the title) in fact this movie is trying to hidden itself like the title Shark , Shrek. The reason Shrek with their pop culture works so well is because to mock Disney with their magical musical trait and how Shrek is vey successful and the lines like "That will do Donkey" is a reference to Babe even if you don't get it , it sounds like Shrek would naturally say but Shark Tale quotes random likes and none of them fits well. That's also the problem I had with Madagascar. (But that movie gets its own review) BAD ANIMATION AKA the actual funny: This movie might be the worst looking DreamWorks movie. AH ITS HIDEOUS! I mean how on God's Planet manage to look this bad it came after the same year as Shrek 2 and its just baffling. I like how the camera angles are exaggerated compare to Shrek which is more cinematic. You can say none of the rendering of the animation is good and the character designs is.... horrendous to say the least and Oscar looks like Will Smith which just doesn't work and the characters at times had weird expressions but unlike Madagascar which also had a lot of weird expressions but it works because its for comedic timing and it fits well with their designs. I mean had you ever looked at the background characters and ... they are even worse then the main characters! (In a funny way) The colours are very dark and ugly but that's a problem I had with early CGI DreamWorks movies except for the Shrek movies which fits well. Conclusion: If I had one word to describe Shark Tale it is.... replicate. Shark Tale try's to replicate Shrek's success and Finding Nemo's ocean theme. Shark Tale try's to replicate Shrek's theme but complete missed the point. Is it the worst DreamWorks movie in the library and is it Classic Junk? I would say YES its worse then Shrek the Third as a story perspective but I like it that way in fact the only things I hate about Shark Tale is its DreamWorks first truly bad movie which kicked started the hit or miss movie trend, Oscar himself and ending and that's it. This is one of these movies that's its sooooooooo bad its good kind of quality and I enjoyed it more then Shrek the Third. Honestly I like the music so that's something and I don't hate it actually. So that's everything I got to say!
