When first watching the short film Best Friends I originally thought the film would be about to friends doing some sorts of activities together however I was surprised when watching the short film there are many twits to make the 5 minutes feel longer and really give you an in-depth view of the world the writers have made.
Best friends a short film made by Nicholas Olivieri, Shen Yi, Juliana De Lucca, Varun Nair, David Feliu, these people have created a short film where at the start the protagonist of the film is in his apartment using this drug called ‘best friend’ to have friends around him. This scene could try to be showing awareness to people being lonely and needing substances to feel good, as he is enjoying the company he breaks the drugs he has been using and goes into a state of panicking as he has to leave his apartment to get more, this further supports my idea that he is becoming dependent on this and can't live without it.
As he goes to get more, he is then approached by a man who is begging him for some of the drug which later these turns into a fight and the Begger ends up stealing the drug and ripping a small disk out of the protagonist's temple, this device looks to be used as the way the drug works. This scene where the Begger is mugging the protagonist is very violent and graphic, this could deter people from watching the short film however to can be good because it can show the lengths people will go to get the drugs, they become reliant on drugs.
In the ending scene the protagonist is brushing his teeth and as he looks in the mirror, he is seen with a replacement disk in his head, this shows that he still is not over the drug and signals a loop in the story.
Overall, the short film has brought awareness to the use of drugs. This short film is beautifully made with great animation and good storytelling.
