I really enjoyed this film. The aimless plot was at first slightly uncomfortable, confusing, and unsatisfactory, but once I understood that it was not supposed to astonish me with any exaggerated drama or unnerving conflict, and that it is simply a light, comedic film about an awkward and quirky teenager, I grew very fond of it, and have watched it several times since. Napoleon himself embodies the exaggerated stereotype of a nerd, but a nerd that is too nerdy for the other nerds - if that is even possible! His character, although dreadfully bizarre, is ultimately lovable, and we find ourselves rooting for his success and happy ending. I think the film is rather lovely, as by reason of our affection toward Napoleon, the director has challenged our own stereotypical thinking, that we may or may not be conscious of. Many watchers, in reality, would not accept a character like Napoleon, whether we are willing to admit this or not. We unconsciously avoid the overly quirky personalities throughout our lives, whether that be in school or in the workplace or even in day to day life, perhaps through fear of association. The director embraces this abnormality in Napoleon's character, showing us that even the outcasts can be bloody hilarious... most of the time on accident! More analytically, I noticed how the weather reflected the mood at each stage of the film. I found this effective, as it touched on the sensitivity that is of definite existence within our human nature. It ensured that our reaction was appropriate to the scene, and that it, to an extent, matched Napoleon's feelings. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and would recommend it as an easy watch, that you don't need to think too much about! :)
