Talk to her is a film directed by Pedro Almodóvar in 2002. The film focuses on 2 characters who are the main characters of the narrative (I wouldn’t use the word Protagonists) this is one of the most morally challenging films I’ve ever watched. The film initially starts off strong exploring themes of love and loss in a quite a profound way through the character of Marco who starts off as quite an honourable character who Almodovar generates sympathy for through the loss of both his lovers. Benigno is the other main character of the film in which loneliness and obsession are explored in an extremely sick, and uncomfortable as he develops a twisted fascination with a girl in a coma. It could be argued he is mentally ill or a psychopath but it comes across as extremely predatory. I also feel like through the cinematography Almodovar sexualises Alicia in an extremely uncomfortable way which makes the audience feel like they are violating the characters privacy. The nail in the coffin in the film for me is Marcos decision to still talk to Benigno and stay in contact with him and upholding his friendship destroying any respect or positive feelings I had felt for Marco due to Almodovars empathic illustration of his life. And even worse Almodovars attempts to create sympathy for Benigno when considering what he has done is a hopeless pursuit. Despite some really impressive cinematography and performances I would avoid watching this film
