The World's End (2013)

When reading the title “The World’s End,” it conjured ideas of disaster and Armageddon. However, since famous actor Simon Pegg (who is commonly associated with dark comedies) was present in the cast, it made me take pause and query my initial thoughts and ideas of the film being entirely based on disaster and tragedies.

The film centers on Gary King, played by Simon Pegg. Gary is an immature 40-year-old man who is trapped in his child like ways. You can see at the beginning of Edgar Wright’s “The World’s end” that all of Gary’s childhood friends now have an occupation and are growing up leaving Gary as the only one who failed to grow up giving the viewers a valid explanation on why he is trying to resurrect the pub crawl him and his friends failed to complete 20 years before. Since the film was set in a standard British village may give the viewers the impression that nothing can go wrong...

The film is extremely easy to follow as it does not require analysis as it is clear what is happening. The film may seem believable at first, however, the film takes a dramatic twist leaving the viewers not believing what is happening.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film due to the smart and dark sense of humour. Actors including Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Martin Freeman were present in this film, making the film even more enjoyable as they are very experienced and talented when starring in films. However, the only negative thing I have to say was that it did start to feel unbelievable towards the end.

One scene I remember very well is when Gary lied and told Andy that his Mum died to convince him to go to the pub crawl with him. The film maker did this to bring even more sympathy to Gary at the time.

I recommend this movie to people who like dark comedies and to those who are into slightly creepier films.

I would compare this film to “Shaun of the dead” due to the fact it included the same actors such as Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It was also directed by the same director in Edgar Wright.
