Treasure Planet (2002)

In a futuristic universe where inhabitants sail the galaxy in 16th century galleons, a fatherless teenager, Jim Hawkins, finds himself the adventure of a lifetime. A treasure map, leading to the spoils of the notorious Captain Nathaniel Flint. As he embarks on this dangerous mission, he meets people he can trust, people he can’t and some people who are just plain confusing. But, the question on everyones lips, will he find what he’s searching for? What really is that?

What was so impressive about this film was how creative the film makers were! They had before them a challenging task: to create a futuristic remake of a classic tale! But, by merging traditional, hand-drawn animation with computer generated images (CGI), they created this wonderful blend of the future and the past!

I would recommend this film to ages 7+, as younger children may be frightened by a couple aliens, but other than that, it’s pretty much universal! The reason for shaving a star off my rating was for the slightly dark element hidden in this film, you left the sofa feeling kind of empty. But don’t let that put you off watching this melodramatic and dazzling film!

The moral I found in this film is something we should all remember: family isn’t restricted to blood.
