Murder on the orient express has been remade many times but I think this is one of the best. Starring and directed by Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot, this film gives a James Bond twist to Agatha Christie’s classic novel.
Istanbul, 1933, and Hercule Poirot already has a reputation as Europe’s bast detective. While travelling on holiday in the Orient Express Mr Rachett (Johnny Depp) a mysterious American businessman is murdered and Poirot is forced to solve the mystery and another heartbreaking case at the same time.
The ending to Murder on the Orient Express always seems so inspiring and shows that normal forms of justice aren't always right.
The music for this film (written by Patric Doyle) is very accurate to the setting and creates tense and exciting scenes.
I thought the use of monochrome colours during flashback scenes created a somber and sobering effect and made the film more serious than other versions who made Poirot’s character more comedic.
Overall I think this is one of my favourite depictions of one of my favourite murder mystery novels. I would really recommend this film to any avid Agatha Christie fan.
