Princess Mononoke tells the story of a Prince who goes on a quest to heal the evil that has scarred him, and possessed a boar he met. Once he has met the characters responsible for the iron ball the boar swallowed, he discovers that the forest is being destroyed by the nearest town. He then works to save the forest, and therefore, the forest spirit. I feel that as the film has aged, it's message that if we do not care for the environment, it will lead to unbalance in the world, has become more and more important. I particularly enjoy the amount of strong females in a story which I originally thought would be quite a traditional and patriotic storyline.
