Bazmark Productions 20th Century Fox's Romeo + Juliet is a brilliant modern version of Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet. It is a romantic tragedy that allows viewers to see that someone else's feud should not be yours, meaning you don't have you hate someone just because someone else does. If events happened in a different order or if different things happened then the plot and possibly the ending would have a different outcome. This would affect the narrative and the character's roles.
The narrative is set in Verona Beach and many different settings are used within that such as, the family's Houses and the Beach. It is set in the original setting of Shakespeare's play. The same story could have happened somewhere else, but Verona is Shakespeare's chosen setting and as it is a modern day version, the setting is suitable. The area's dressing highlights that it is set in the modern day Verona.
In the film, there is music, sound and silence that carries emotion and atmosphere. This makes the viewer feel involved and feel that they are there. Silence also emphasises emotion. Some sounds have been made louder to emphasises the meaning of the actions, keeping the viewers engaged and making sure that they are aware of the burden the action carries.
In Bazmark Productions 20th Century Fox's Romeo + Juliet, the colours are bright and realistic, adding depth to the film. However, the narrative could have been conveyed equally well in monochrome, but the colours keep the viewers engaged. Colour is also used to portray the time of day. If it is evening, then colours and settings are darker, but if it is day, the colours are brighter.
There are two main characters Romeo and Juliet, but the other characters are also crucial to the film as they add depth and interest to the plot. Therefore any additions would change the plot and also Shakespeare's play. The two families behave hatefully towards each other as there is an ongoing feud, but they behave lovingly towards those in their family.
The film is seen through the eyes and feelings of Romeo and Juliet, but other characters also express their opinions and points of view. In this film, long shots are used to give and idea of perspective and where the characters are. Close-ups are used to allow the viewers to understand the characters' feelings through their facial expressions and body language.
