This thriller comedy is an okay film, however personally I didn't enjoy it immensely, though some of it was acceptable. The basic plot is: a family from Switzerland are traveling to New Guinea but when they're sailing there a terrible storm blows up which, as a result, shipwrecks them on an island; whilst pirates are chasing them, though who knows why to begin with! They decide to make the most of their situation by making an amazing tree house, and by training animals, and end up living life almost normally!
Some of the things I don't like are the women, they ALWAYS wear overly frilly dresses and scream a lot, while the men are as cool as custard covered cucumbers and are constantly taking their shirts off, especially the older boy to reveal shiny & thoroughly waxed, hairless chests; so I, being a girl, didn't like this as it was sexist.
However as I mentioned earlier there are some bits that were good, especially as they didn't have CGI back then; there were a lot of live animals, including a tigers so this impressed me as they would have needed an animal trainer, this would have been a challenge and a half! I also like the imaginative ways they had of defending themselves against pirates by using bombs, logs and more which, as a result, sent them splatting down a cliff. The tree house and practical gadgets they made were cool.
I think because it is quite old (made in 1960) adults are more likely to like it, but for kids it can be interesting too.
My favourite scene is when they are having an animal race and they keep falling off the ostrich and donkey as it made me laugh!
All in all worth watching if you don't have much else to see.
