Whilst this film contains all the iconic Anderson elements - this films seems to lack any sentimental interrelation with me, with other films I become emotionally invested amongst the characters - yet within Rushmore, Max Fischer just seems to annoy me, his obsession with his teacher being a completely normal teenage experience - usually it is not acted upon at all. Students typically standing aside and eventually these feelings wearing off, yet he tests the boundaries in an uncomfortable manner.
While I do know this is intentional - to teach the line between lust and obsessiveness, and I am glad people can realise this - just if still feels very off-putting to me. Personally, I believe Anderson has a way of testing themes and issues within society, a truly iconoclastic director, but for me - this wasn't executed within the best way possibly, its messaged becoming distorted and taken possibly completely incorrectly.
Following Max Fischer and his complete infatuation with Rosemary Cross - a teacher at his school. This topic being widely used within modern day film, personally I find a comedic masterpiece from Wes, just minus Max's complete warped perception that he could actually be with her, him acting on this being utterly uncomfortable. However, I do not dislike this film , I did laugh at many points and the technique used is still stunning - I appreciate the execution, yet overall, just not for me.
