Personally, I loved this short! Here’s what it’s about and why I have a liking towards it:
The main plotline of this short film takes place during the events of WALL-E, which is the story of a robot left on a post-apocalyptic Earth to clean up waste left behind by humans after they went into space to start a new life. In the original story, WALL-E finds a plant (which was the only living thing to still be on Earth) and ends up getting himself taken into space - after meeting a more futuristic robot called EVE, who was sent down to scan for life - in order to deliver it to humans so they can return back to the planet.
The story of BURN-E shows short but sweet comedic sketches of a service robot determined to fix part of the ship they’re on. Unfortunately, they are affected by what takes place during WALL-E (e.g: being distracted by WALL-E while arriving at the spaceship.) This forces BURN-E to consistently go back and forth; from getting a new part to applying it to the broken component, which keeps breaking due to something they can’t control! I think this had an easily understandable plot, and it was overall entertaining to watch.
I like the atmosphere of this movie. The beautiful landscape of space was surprisingly relaxing to look at. The sounds were pretty good! They were fitting to the actions the characters were doing. (I love the voices of the robots!) The music also changes depending on what situation BURN-E is in or how they feel, which I thought was a neat addition! I won’t say what happens, but I love the irony of the music of the end.
One last thing I’d like to mention is that there is almost no spoken dialogue, the only words being names such as “WALL-E”. I find it very inspiring that even a simple story can be presented in such a detailed way just through actions.
This short film shows a different perspective of one of Disney-Pixar’s most unique films, and it adds on as a great side story to the original. You should definitely give this one a watch, especially if you’re a fan of the original movie!
