E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is about the kindness Elliot shows towards his alien friend E.T. It is also about the relationships and friendships in Elliot's family.I think the most important event in the story is E.T. being left behind because nothing else would have happened if E.T. had returned home immediately.
I believe that this narrative is set in the modern day because there are many modern appliances, like televisions and electric lights. However, this film could be set somewhere else, such as a big city, but some of the details would have to change and the narrative may alter slightly.
Music is key in the film as it helps to create the atmosphere and suspense. Although other noises are also used. For example: as the characters are out side in the night, you can hear the noises of nocturnal animals. Even though music is a very important part of this film, silence is equally important as it helps to build tension - it is especially used in the arguments between the characters. The sound effects often change as the narrative moves towards a new scene and a new part of the plot to introduce the atmosphere.
The dark black of the trees and the deep blue of the sky tells the viewer that some of the film occurs in the night. I think that if the film was in black and white, the story would still work, but the colour allows a little bit more depth and this also helps the viewer to understand what is happening.
If some of the character is E.T. The Extra- Terrestrial , were taken away, added or changes it would completely change the story line. This is because the relationships between the characters would differ and some of their plans would not work. I think E.T. is the most interesting because we don't know very much about him, like where he is from and what he eats or who is family are.
In this film, close up shots are used to show the detail in the character's face or the scene around them. Whereas long shots are used to give a wider view of what is happening and where they are. Sometimes the shots change quickly to add to the mysterious atmosphere and tension and suspense, but in other calmer parts of the narrative the shots are slower to change.
