“Rain Man” is a captivating, beautifully-shot and heart-rending drama housing exceptional performances from its two leads.
Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise both deliver superb performances here, their characters are realistic and relatable, making their journey of self-discovery that bit more compelling. Hoffman does a masterful job of portraying an autistic character, his performance is never cartoonish or offensive; this is easily one of the most powerful depictions of a learning-disabled person in film.
Due to its heavy subject matter I probably wouldn’t re-visit “Rain Man” anytime soon, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is a great film.
Print this reviewTom Hanks won his second Oscar for this performance as a kind-hearted man-child who lives an amazingly eventful life in post-war America.
