“Billy Elliot” is a compelling drama, albeit an incredibly depressing one, housing outstanding performances from Julie Walters and Jamie Bell.
Every character felt like a real person, which heightened the intensity of the more emotional scenes and gave the film a natural, documentary-esque style.
The cinematography effectively captures the run-down look of Northern England during the Thatcher years. It’s astounding that the movie was released in 2000, when most of it looks like it was actually shot in the 80s during the miner’s strikes.
I thought “Billy Elliot” was a very good film, even though I personally preferred “Brassed Off.”
