Thomas’s father is on an adventure which means they don’t see each other. This made Thomas feel sad because it meant they could not be together for birthdays and Christmas.
Thirty years later, Thomas Popper is a divorced businessman with children of his own. Although he loved his children very much, he always put work first.
Whilst on his Antarctic adventure Thomas’s father sadly died. He decides to give his son a penguin to remember him by, he sends it in a large crate. When he opens the package, he thinks the penguin is an ornament. He hears a quark from behind him, turning around to realise it’s a real penguin! Thomas decides to put the penguin in his bathroom because he’s getting annoyed with it, but it accidently turned the tap handle with his flipper, making the whole room flood, when Mr Popper opens the bathroom door all the water pours out.
He is really frustrated and decides to call his father’s organisation, demanding that they take the penguin back. Due to a misunderstanding he gets sent five more penguins!
He tries to put the penguin back in the crate but whilst he has his back turned all the others escape.
Next, Mr Popper tries to get rid of the penguins another way by asking animal experts, including a central park zookeeper if they will take the penguins but this still doesn’t work. Billy one of Mr Poppers children thinks the penguins are bought for his birthday.
Three of the penguins lay eggs only two of them hatch. He puts the remaining egg outside to encourage it to hatch but unfortunately it doesn’t. He started with one penguin and now has eight! But now the Poppers have the penguins Mr Popper cares a lot more about his family and not as much about work. The zookeeper from the Central park zoo decides to take the penguins because he says they shouldn’t be living in Mr Poppers house.
I thought this phenomenal film was absolutely, full of comedy and a few surprises and if I made that film, I wouldn’t make a single change. The actors were amazing and I definitely thought it contained an important message.
