Memento is an early Nolan film that explores gruesome and touching subjects, however, as the film is told backwards it’s hard to keep track of and it feels as though you have to take notes on what happens in order to retain the information and completely understand the film. If focus is lost for a matter of minutes the film loses sense and direction and is difficult to follow even when paying attention. Although the concept of the film is extremely detailed and imaginative the way it’s created could have been done better, but as the film is an earlier one of Nolan’s it’s easy to see that his style is not yet fully evolved, and if he were to make it I feel as though he would be able to execute it perfectly as his later works such as the batman trilogy are some of my favourite films. Memento is a hard hitting, complex work that I feel is generally a good film that I’d recommend to film lovers, however, it’s not something I’d recommend to everyone as it’s hard to follow plot and constant flashbacks and chaotic timeline isn’t something I feel everyone enjoy especially those who prefer easy watching films.
