Encounters at the End of the World (2007)

This film as directed by Werner Herzog and is a documentary about life in Antarctica.

It starts off with Werner Herzog narating on a plane heading for Antarctica. And even from the very start you can get a feel for what it is going to be like. Because throughout the entire film Herzog never shows himself on screen.

While in Antarctica he meets some quirky characters that have come from all over the world for different reasons. But when Herzog interviews them he’s very informal for example someone will be telling their story but then Herzog will interupt them and say “to cut a long story short”.

Also through out he goes to different research stations around Antarctica. The main one were we start of is called McMurdo. It is also where we meet most of these characters. But Herzog dosent like it very much because of how unnatural it is and that he wants to get out as soon as possible.

Overall I thought it was a great movie with an angelic captivating soundtrack and scenes where Herzog would stop nararating and just let it play out. One of my faviroute scenes is when Herzog stops speaking and lets us hear real time seal calls underwater while multiple researchers lay down on the ice. It feels very ailen.

I’ll give this film rating of 4/5. This is because the overall scale and the theming is amazing. My one gripe is the film could get a little repetitive.
