The film a Journey's End is a British war film about life in the trenches in World War one. It is based on a true event.
Journey's End is a film about a group of British soldiers in an Aisne trench awaiting their fate. The soldiers are led by Captain Stanhope (Sam Claflin) an officer whose mental health is rapidly disintegrating. He is soon joined by Lieutenant Raleigh (Asa Butterfield), an old school friend who recently joined the army. Raleigh is greeted by an unwelcoming Stanhope, who has been significantly changed by the terror of war. The characters are perfectly portrayed as a mix of eager teenagers ready to fight and tired, shell shocked men.
Throughout the beginning of the movie the scenes are quite slow and dragged on. Nearing the end of the movie there is fast paced violence and attacks. This leads to a moment of peace before the devastating aftermath is finally shown. Although I found it boring in the beginning, I did shed a tear or two once the final result of the violence was shown. The statistics provided at the end of the movie were also very helpful in portraying just how immensely catastrophic the events of WWI were.
This film is full of insanely talented actors; each perfectly portraying their roles. It is authentic and I would definitely recommend this film to anyone.
