TL;DR
A film with good puppet work, but disappointing everything else.
What I liked:
The puppets added another dimension to the film which I don’t think would be achievable with human actors. They add another layer between the audience and the film, which helped dampen the blow to somewhat tender topics. If nothing else, it was funny to watch them stumble around.
What I didn’t:
Unfortunately, the puppets are the only part of the film I enjoyed. I wasn’t particularly moved by any of what I assume were the funny parts. Even the caricatures representing Kim Jong Il and or the Hollywood actors fell short for me. I just didn’t find any of the prior nor their nihilistic commenting on the world around us to challenge my views on any intellectual level.
Overall:
After hearing very good things about it for such a long time, I was hoping to be delivered something better than what I received.
