Mean Girls revolves around the school life of Cady Heron, a previously home-schooled girl from Africa, now having to adapt to the new environemnt of a sterotypical High School. Cady was completely clueless as how to be 'cool' in this new world, but she is pretty enough to catch the attention and make friends with the three most popular queens of the school, the 'plastics'. Cady thought being this popular early on was the best thing that could have happened to her, however as more and more drama starts emerging around her, the popularity was more of a curse than a blessing.
Mean Girls features unique and humorous characters, from the three queens of the 'plastics', to the nerdy teens in the math club, none of them will fail to leave a strong impression on you. My favorite character - Regina ( Starred by Rachel McAdams ), is a two-faced, drama queen, and the leader of the group 'plastics'. The design of her character was simply amazing, as her dialog changes depending who she is talking to, this shows how fake her personality really is, moreover, the acting of Rachel McAdams was superb, which perfectly shapes the character of Rachel, leaving a strong impression in the minds of audiences.
However, in terms of cinematography, music, and writing, there was nothing too surprisinging. The story revolves around the sterotypical high school topics, cheating with best friend's boyfriend, gossiping behind others backs, bullying, those who've watched enough high school comedies would be very familiar with the topics, making the plot of the film very predictable, furthermore, towards the ending of the movie, the story felt very rushed and things escalated too quickly, making events feeling disconnected. Moreover, the cinematography and music wasn't too spectacular, for me, the african music playing in the background in some scenes simply didn't fit into the context.
In conclusion, the movie features characters with unique personalities, making it standing out from the rest of high school comedies, however, at a critical stand point, the plot, cinematography, and sound editing were not too impressive in this film. This film is an amazing film to just sit back and have a good laugh, if you are not trying too hard to predict the easily predictable plot development. I would recommend this film too teenagers, and for those who wants to feel the nostalgia of the good old high school days.
