Kathleen Turner starring as Joan Wilder, an American romantic novelist, who recentlyy received a treasure map from her mailbox, find herself threatened as she must venture into Colombia to unveil the secrets of the map and to save her sister’s life. In her adventure, she meets Jack Wilder (starred by Michael Douglas), whose personality totally clashes with Joan’s persoanality. As the story unfolds, they slowly bond together romantically.
Firstly, the plot is pretty straightforward, a classic treasure hunting adventure film with a mix of romance. There wasn’t a lot of plot twists and most of the film’s climax scenes relies on either coincidences, or repeating car chasing scenes, which might get boring for the audience after the fourth or fifth time.
The characters in the film were pretty bland as well. The villain in this movie, Zolo ( Starred by Manuel Ojeda ), doesn’t have an interesting motive that makes him an intriguing villain, and the film did a poor job explaining how he was related to the treasure.
Romancing the stone tried to do everything, romance, adventure, treasure hunting, and comedy at the same time, but did a slack job in every aspect. It is a fun film to watch for entertainment, but definitely not one of the best films. I would rate this film a 5/10
Print this reviewComplex but hugely original and very funny comedy that takes apart the way Hollywood movies are normally constructed.
