Holes (2003)

This great Disney film is about a group of law-breaking boys who get sent to a strange place called Camp Green Lake. Strange because it is not green and has no lake, instead a land of desert with no water in sight. The boys have to dig holes all day to build character, but what’s really happening at Camp Green Lake?

Stanley (Shia Labeouf,) the main character makes friends with a weird group of boys called X-ray, Zigzag, Armpit, Magnet, Squid and especially Zero (Khleo Thomas). Camp Green Lake is run by the feared warden (Sigourney Weaver,) and helped out by Mr Sir. (Jon Voight

This story also looks back on past bandit Kissin’ Kate Barlow (Patricia Arrquette,). She used to be a normal school teacher in the old town of Green Lake but ever since she took a fancy to Sam (Dule Hill,), who is a black onion picker, things started to go very wrong.

The film concentrates on a number of themes. Will digging endless holes change your attitude? Also it’s about racism and how people are treated differently because of their appearance. Once you’ve seen Holes you’ll certainly have something to think about.

With a great story, a fantastic plot and loads of adventure, Holes really is a fantastic film. I would advise to most people to watch this film, but if you’re more into action and battle scenes, then maybe this film isn’t for you. This is not a dull superhero film where you go from battle to battle and instantly forget it at the end. It’s a great film with a fantastic story and loads of adventure!
