Pacific Rim (2013)

This week we watched the critically acclaimed Pacific Rim, where Kaiju’s, huge, alien like monsters arise from the Pacific Ocean to destroy humanity; the human race is at stake, and the government wastes no time creating giant mech like robots to help fight them called Jaegers which require two pilots, where they must sync their brains and control the Jaeger as one. But five years later, ex pilot Raleigh must come back to help save humanity as the Kaiju’s increase in size and strength, he must learn to leave his tragic past behind for the sake of the human race. Will he and his co-pilot, an inexperienced trainee, be able to save the Earth or will the worlds safety fall from their huge, metal hands?

Unlike most of my film group, I enjoyed this film. I thought the plot was well thought out and intricate, just enough to pull someone in. Then, the CGI of the Kaiju’s and Jaegers helped to make it real, although others may call it boring and unoriginal, I believe that it took features from our modern world and developed them to make it a good science fiction, fantasy film. As the film goes on, you begin to develop many questions about this which makes you want to keep watching. My eyes were glued to the screen the whole time; the film is comedic and had different scenes in all different environments

The music perfectly accompanies the scenes, as the mood is developed and the tension builds, the directors really knew how to interest people and pull them in.

Some people see the film as dull, and that the fight scenes are uninteresting and slow. Audiences also argue that the actors (such as Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman) did a bad job and that the CGI was the only thing that made it worth watching. I agree on some parts, where they talk about how the progression is slow, but that can be seen as tension building for the main event. In addition, some scenes were cheesy and unrealistic, which can break that great immersion you get from the action packed, fast paced beginning. It is described as clique

To conclude, this film would be good for a teenage audience as there is mature language and jokes that would not suit anyone under 12.
