The film was a very interesting eye opener to what life must have been like for refugees during WW2. It's set in the English countryside where an old man called Mr Oakley lives, he is Mr Tom. William who's 9 years old is forced to leave his mother in the city as the war breaks out and bombs start falling on the most populated areas. William's mother insists that he lives with someone religious or near a church. The only option for William when reaching his new home in the countryside is to live with Mr Tom. Mr Tom doesn't want William to live with him but as time passes the two become closer and develop a special bond. The film looks at how friendships develop in terrible situations. The war sees tragic loss of life and people forced into situations they would normally avoid. William and Mister Tom have a heartwarming relationship. A must see film!
