Super 8 (2011)

In the movie super 8, Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney) and love interest Alice Dainard (Elle Fanning) along with their friends Charles Kaznyk (Riley Griffiths), Preston Scott (Zack Mills), Martin Read (Gabriel Basso) and Cary McCarthy (Ryan Lee) are filming a low budget zombie movie. Whiles filming at a train station they witness a horrific event of a car driving into a train that starts a large chain of events that lead to tragedy in their town. Throughout the movie they discover move about the strange happenings and are surprised by what is causing all the disruptions and ends in Joe having to be brave to save everyone.

The movie had a great story that used themes of romance, sci-fi, comedy and horror to bring the movie to life and keep the audience intrigued about what is going to happen next. JJ Abrams then ties it all up perfectly at the end to give a satisfying ending that explains all the unanswered questions set during the movie, although he did not give a good explanation on why Joe’s father, Deputy Jackson Lamb (Kyle Chandler) and Louis Dainard (Ron Eldard) are arguing it explains that jackson blames louis for the death of his wife but doesn't explain why he blames him and not someone who was at the place if the accident and i could of been explained better. Although the aliens motive was said in the movie they didn’t really give a reason as to why they were doing these thing, like killing people and attacking innocent people. It did explain most of the other thing it was doing like breaking things and taking part but not why all the dog ran away.

The backstory of joe’s mother, Elizabeth (Caitriona Balfe) being killed put a really good motive for joe to about wanting to be the hero because the doesn’t want to lose anyone else, it also put in place lots of argument between Joe and his father because his father wants to protect Joe because he is all he has left. These argument cause lots of events and thing to happen during the movie and bring the story forward in a smooth way to make all the scene connect. The movie had an unsatisfying ending because whereas they do answer most of the big question lots of thing go unanswered and unexplained. Throughout the movie he was shown to have a locket that was his mother's and at the end the alien used it for their ship and it was a good way to show that he had moved on.

The movie involves lots of action scene that are portrayed really well and look really realistic. The movie does a good job as to make the audience feel lots of emotions at the right point and brakes the tense atmosphere and collection of emotions with some comedy in order to stop the audience feel uncomfortable whilst keeping the the movie serious. There are some point the movie that i feel like they make jokes at the wrong time and breaks the mood when there is something serious going on and they get distracted from the main point of the scene.

The relationship between Joe and his best friend Charles was not used a lot and it was more of an excuse to put Joe into the places and making the film, Charles was more of an unexplained character who didn’t really had any background of much of a personality much like all Joe's other friends who were given on main personality traits and nothing else was put into their personality, but Charles being his best friend boiled down to he likes making films and comes from a big family but even that wasn’t shown much as it was said Joe is like their family but he doesn’t have much connection to them for most of the film. Alice their friend and Joe's love interest wasn’t given much of a character and it was more to put i place that their dads didn’t get along and she was just the damsel in distress the who movie that would make Joe the hero.
