The battle between good and evil is a plot used in almost every movie. So why does the plot of ‘The Devils Backbone’ feel so new and fresh. This movie will always have a special place in my heart because of the way director Guillermo del Toro builds up a relationship with characters. From the start we’re deceived into believing that certain characters were completely different to how they really were. Del Toro does this very well as we don’t know which characters to believe and which not to trust.
It’s movies like this one which have inspired other movies and television shows and movies with a predominately child cars, such as Netfix’s ‘Stranger Things and the 2017 movie ‘IT’. Obviously, children have always acted in major movies however, ‘The Devils Backbone’ give the role of a child a new dynamic.
The movie still holds up to today’s standard of cinematography as the visuals are unique to this day and the blue/amber hues running throughout the movie are a technique that has been used many times after the release of this movie. If someone didn’t watch this movie at least once in their life they would be denying themselves of a cinematic experience unlike no other before it.
