Frankenweenie (2012)

This Film May Shock You!

Frankenweenie is a horror/comedic film directed by Tim Burton, in his usual, eerie and gothic style. This film begins with the main character a young boy named Victor Frankenstein, who is emotionally invested in his dog, Sparky. Eventually, Sparky faces his inevitable doom, causing Victor to spiral into depression. Will Victor ever be reunited with his beloved Sparky? Victor soon finds a solution, crossing mortal and death to create his reborn Sparky. However, fate seems to be going against him as the neighbourhood stir up distress.

Personally, I believe that the style of Tim Burton’s films are extremely unique a propelling along with the grey-scale filter to add on to the drastic atmosphere. The characters were intriguing and had compelling back stories, for example: the children and teachers. The fact they didn’t stick to the classic stereotyped neighbourhood, instead addressing the area as spooky and mysterious. The body shapes of the characters also portray their confusing and unusual personalities, adding to their aura.

However, the plot was too abnormal and uninteresting as some parts were repetitive. Additionally, this may not be suitable for younger audiences as this could concoct nightmares and fears. Overall I would give the film, 3 stars for the unique ideas and plot.
