Frida illustrates a hard working young woman in 1920's Mexico. The film portrays Frida as a driven, passionate and wild young woman who has a love for painting . After a trolley accident , the film shows the drive in Frida's personality of how she overcomes her injuries and starts painting using mirrors. the dramatic events such as the trolley crash and childbirth scene are filmed well using different camera angles and slow-mo effects and the acting is superb and realistic. The casting of characters is very realistic and has clearly been throughly thought about due to the culture and personalities. The settings and colors used are very bold and make a statement of the culture at that time . The film also includes traditional spanish music played throughout live , this is great when a scene unfolds and is played back and forth.I particularly like the way Julie taymor (director) uses kahlo's original art to start or end scenes , whereby the characters morph into the paintings. I believe that is unique and great way to remind the view that this film is about a real life famous artist and not just a fictional movie.the acting is incredible , particularly Salma hayek (who plays Frida) , through her body language and facial expression she's expresses the way Frida wants the best in life and wants her own way . It is clear that Frida is a strong and powerful young woman who goes against traditional rules. I recommend this film to anyone ,even if they are not interested in art as it is a great story , the quality of the camera work and acting is brilliant and it portrays her life really well.
