I've seen Strictly Ballroom 3 times and what impresses me the most are the colours and the layout of the film. What I've noticed is that every pair of dancers each has their own colour. What I've spotted is that the colours are very important in this film, they help backup the story. For example the ballroom dancers wear lighter colours like white, pink, purple, green and black and yellow and much more they also wear a smile. The Spanish on the other hand wear darker and more dramatic colours like black, red and gold which help to tell the story. One of the main themes is following your heart in other words expressing yourself. However there is this horrible man Barry Fife who is scared of people taking away his power so he makes everybody dance the "right “steps and he gets angry when someone dances the "wrong" steps. What Scott wants is to dance his own steps and express himself, like his Dad did. In this film there is a varied range of emotions from sad to happy, angry to enamoured and hopeful to heartless they’ve got it all. This is similar to the colours the dresses are made to show the girls personalities from floral to simple and sweet one pieces to two pieces you name it. When someone is sad they are told to put on their happy face but what they can really do is use that emotion in their dance. Like (the female main character) Fran’s Grandma would say “A life lived in fear is a life half lived. Fran’s Grandma and Dad are fearless, different and sharp people who are Spanish and great with rhythm and feeling the beat. And it is through their help that Scott find his to find his own rhythm. I enjoyed this film because of the colour, the scene layout and the design .This director
Baz Lurhmann is one of my new favourite because he really cares about colour and design
